Our food is our way of life; haa atxaayí haa kusteeyíx sitee.  Because all food comes from the earth in one way or another, the Lingít people have learned to respect the earth and its resources.  They believe that the earth, the animals and the plants give themselves to the people.  Therefore, respect is of utmost importance when speaking about our resources.  It is important to always give thanks to those who give up their lives for human consumption and use.  Talking to the plants and animals is a norm that has been established for thousands of years.
